Composition 5- Portraits

Portraits:
These portrait photos are inspired by Richard Avedon's work, as he is a portrait photographer. I followed his way of taking photos through saying prompts to the model that would invoke some emotion in their facial expression. From watching Avedon's documentary, I learned that he only actually took the photos of his subjects after the models put down their "mask" and would start to show their emotions to Avedon and his camera. I tried to do this same thing, but I didn't have enough time to accommodate for not taking the first few "masked" photos. I took pictures of Daro and Stewart.

  1. I like your work with extremities with Daro, my only suggestion is to use more than one model and have them convey an emotion that is more like their personality.

Class Project 1

Class Project 1 I tried to recreate Lauren's fall series by taking black and white pictures of Lauren while she was using her arms to make shapes. I tried to recreate Daro's miniature world by making Daro seem short by having him sit under a table.  I tried to recreate Lakpa's photos by overlapping and fading her face with a scenic picture. I feel like this photo is really relaxing.  I tried to recreate Liam's photos by overlapping and fading his face with a scenic picture. I tried to recreate Armon's photos by taking a picture of him with abstract architecture behind him. I tried to recreate Stewart's photos by taking a picture of him sitting in an urban area. I also tried to make the picture look like Stewart wasn't aware of his photo being taken. I tried to recreate Danny's athlete series by taking a portrait of him. I tried to recreate Ava's ghost series by taking a picture of her, printing it out, a...

Draft 5

Draft 5 My project is based on of Uta Barth's photos. I did this by fully zooming in and going fully out of focus. By doing this, I was able to create simple shapes with simple colors. I wanted to mix colors and geometric shapes in a way to create a neat abstract image. I added the PicMonkey Film Grain filter to each of my photos in order to make my photos more simplistic. My themes are very simplistic and calming, and they make the viewer really think about the photo and try to interpret what the subject of the photo is. After my first day of taking photos, I learned that street lights are very good subjects for my photos, as they emit an unusual and prominent color. My photos changed since my Draft 4 photos by trying to have more simple shapes that have conflicting colors. I continued to try to create shapes in my photos so that the focus is not too drawn out into the corner by some bright light. I also read Casey's comments which suggested me to take these photos at night t...

After my first day of taking photos, I learned that street lights are very good subjects for my photos, as they emit an unusual and prominent color. My photos changed since my Draft 3 photos by having the impact of the grain filter on my photos be less. I tried to create shapes in my photos so that the focus is not too drawn out into the corner by some bright light. I basically tried to create an even balance in all of my photos. ...
